miniSAN Solution
miniSAN is LayerWalker's patented technology designed specifically for home, SOHO and SMB network storage markets. Imagine that you sit before your PC working on your files from a storage box in the living room. Kids are watching home videos in family room from the same box via your home network. Old data is backing up to that very same device from your laptop upstairs as scheduled.. With a miniSAN-enabled storage box, all these activities can happen at the same time just like local disk access in each place. No expensive storage servers are needed. No network configuration hassles at all.
- Simple - With driver software installed, device discovery is almost instant and plug-and-play. No cumbersome and confusing network IP/DHCP/etc settings required.
- Fast - Unique protocol engines and hardware datapath produce highest data performance bounded by nothing but interface speed and physical disk"s sequential rate.
- Safe - Specifically designed management with access control and hardware firewall. Data secure with ATA security, S.M.A.R.T and optional software RAID support.
- Smart - Embedded firmware delivers full-stack TCP/IP management plus manufacturing and testing support. Feature adds (like FTP) and code patches are feasible.
- Low-Cost - Simple controller architecture requires no external RAM/ROM or hassles of porting embedded OS drivers. Minimal total BOM cost and development efforts.
- Flexible - Works perfectly at 10/100Mbps and gigabit Ethernet speeds. Friendly to co-work with other disk masters and all 2.5" and 3.5" ATA and SATA disks.
- Scalable - Natural storage space growth with SAN operational structure. Storage expansion is unlimited and never easier.
- Green - RoHS-compliant components that generate extremely low power dissipation (<350mW) even under gigabit data access speed.

Hermes LW-16800 Gigabit Network Storage Controller
Hermes LW-6800 10/100Mbps Network Storage Controller
The Hermes LW6800 controller is a delicate solution for home, consumer, SOHO and SMB network storage applications. It embraces a modern System-on-a-Chip architecture and keeps a dedicated ASIC hardware design for its main network and storage protocol processing tasks. As a result, the LW6800 offers a well balance between highspeed hardware datapath and flexible firmware management intelligence. With its built-in 10/100Mbps Ethernet and ATA Ultra-DMA controllers, the LW6800 can demonstrate a network disk read/write bandwidth close to or even higher than the local Direct-Attached-Storage access speed, which is not commonly seen in typical CPU-based embedded architecture and systems.
- Fixed-function network storage controller device ¡V requires no external firmware or optional codes upgrade from flash memory
- IEEE802.3 compliant Ethernet MAC with 10/100Mbps MII interface and full- or half-duplex operations
- Proprietary hardware acceleration engines to speed up network operations like packet validating, parsing, filtering, classifying and traffic flow steering
- Full stack TCP/IP management capability with embedded firmware intelligence
- On-chip IDE host controller complying with the ATA-6 specifications
- Support 48-bit LBA for large hard drives
- Support ATA security and S.M.A.R.T. features
- Support PIO modes 0-4, multiword DMA modes 0-2, and UDMA modes 0-5
- Support one or two ATA devices (master/slave)
- Power-save mode to reduce operational power consumption per system application requirements
- External pin control to put ATA interface in a highimpedance (Hi-Z) state so the bus could be shared with other controller or master
- Embedded 64KB RAM with advanced DMA engine to support ultra fast data buffering and hardware access path from network to disk controller
- Built-in Timers, UARTs, Flash, Interrupts, GPIOs, I2C, SPI and MDIO controllers
- Use one external serial EEPROM to contain product identification numbers and device configuration data
- "Server-Push" technology to distribute special customized events to network clients and applications
- LayerWalker network storage class drivers available for Microsoft Windows (2000, XP, 2003) and Linux (kernel 2.4 and 2.6) OS
- Support board-level manufacturing utilities via serial-port or network interface
- Integrate OSC/PLL circuits and require only one 25MHz crystal clocking source
- Low-power 3.3V and 1.8V operations
- RoHS-compliant 128-pin LQFP package with a small foot print
